Hi everyone! Today I have the lovely Meradeth Houston here, author of Colors Like Memories, sharing a guest post centred around Carpe Diem (Seize the moment). Feel free to comment with your thoughts on this liberating quote, take some inspiration, and of course check out her brilliant debut novel.
Thanks so much for hosting me! And before I forget, I have a contest running for my blog tour—all commenter’s are entered into a drawing for two copies of my book, and one person will win a $25 giftcard to Amazon or Barnes & Noble. There are more details on my home blog, if you want to check it out!
Today I thought I’d talk a little bit about an image I found on Pinterest. I read it and went “Yay! I can cross that off my list of things to do before I die!” (Everyone has these lists, right? Right? Okay, maybe not, but I do, and it grows all the time. At this point I think I need to be immortal.)
Anyhow, writing and publishing a book has always been a dream of mine, and I’m more than a little excited to get to share Colors Like Memories with the world.
Now, here’s the thing: sometimes we really need a little kick in the pants to get things crossed off our list. A push in the Carpe Diem direction. For me, that came just over two years ago in the form of a nasty car accident (country roads, rainy night, some lady who blew through a stop sign going 60mph…). There is nothing like realizing that if you were a foot further into the intersection you wouldn’t be here today. That was my “kick in the pants.” I’d been subbing manuscripts and querying agents before that, but at that point getting published became a “This is going to happen” thing, rather than a “I hope this happens” item on my list.
If you’ve happened by my blog lately, you might also have noticed me talking about this crazy adventure my husband and I are on. We took four months and just decided to take off into the world. A lot of things had to come together for it to happen (including that car accident), but it has been amazing, and we’ve managed to visit some incredible places and meet some awesome people. It has been a constant reminder to me, during this trip, that life is short, and enjoy it while you can. (Let alone the ideas for writing—there is nothing like seeing new places to get that muse up and running!)
So, inquiring minds want to know, what kinds of things do you have on your List? What was the last thing you did to Carpe Diem?
Colours Like Memories
Julia has a secret: she killed the guy she loved. It was an accident—sort of.
Julia is a Sary, the soul of a child who died before taking her first breath. Without this 'breath of life' she and others like her must help those on the verge of suicide. It's a job Julia used to enjoy, until the accident that claimed her boyfriend’s life—an accident she knows was her fault. If living with the guilt weren't enough, she's now assigned to help a girl dealing with the loss of her mother, something Julia's not exactly the best role model for. If she can't figure out a way to help her, Julia's going to lose her position in the Sary, something she swore to her boyfriend would never happen.
Release date: May 11th 2012 from MuseItUp Publishing.

A bit about Meradeth Houston:
Meradeth’s never been a big fan of talking about herself, but if you really want to know, here are some random tidbits about her:
- She’s a Northern California girl. This generally means she talks too fast and uses "like" a lot.
- When she’s not writing, she’s sequencing dead people’s DNA. For fun!
- She’s been writing since she was 11 years old. It's her hobby, her passion, and she’s so happy to get to share her work!
- If she could have a super-power, it would totally be flying. Which is a little strange, because she’s terrified of heights.

Huge thanks to you Meradeth for writing this post.
Your car accident: I really wanted to include a :-O response mid-way!
Glad you're okay...and a sort-of silver lining was your list change and travels.
Thanks for stopping by and reading folks!
